The Rookery

This home refurbishment transformed a dated Bermuda residential property. We focused on creating the ultimate dream kitchen for a large family passionate about cooking and entertaining. The original kitchen was cramped, dark, and no longer able to support the way the family lived and gathered.

The design goals centred on expanding the space and introducing abundant natural light to create a welcoming and highly functional heart of the home. To achieve this, a 400-square-foot addition was designed, and the kitchen layout was completely reconfigured to align with a more contemporary design.

The result is a true chef’s kitchen, an enviable source for endless kitchen ideas featuring high-end appliances, dual islands for increased prep and seating space, a dedicated butcher-block chopping station, a coffee bar, and vented drawers for storing root vegetables. Open shelving adds both function and visual interest, showcasing the family’s collection of Staub and Le Creuset cookware and the unique benefit of thoughtful design and custom building.

The addition also incorporates practical, well-considered spaces that enhance daily living. A full bathroom remodel was completed, with a fresh powder room and mudroom integrated into the design, complete with custom cabinetry, an additional sink, and a second dishwasher to streamline cleanup during large gatherings.

The completed kitchen and addition not only meet the family’s functional needs but also create a light-filled, inviting environment designed for cooking, entertaining, and making memories for years to come.
